a layering of old and new
The interior of this loft in a former pencil factory was completely transformed by the Inhabit Interiors team. Working closely with the owner, the team created a home tailored to the client’s urban lifestyle.
By using old materials in new ways, the team created a space that feels authentic to the building’s history, yet perfectly suited for the owner’s modern-day needs. Highlighting the materials and spirit of the building, the architecture was simplified to showcase the timber-frame ceiling and exposed brick walls.
Within each space, materials in the furnishings and accessories reference the architecture. A Pierre Chareau chair with leather straps and metal frame encapsulates this material expression, while a fireplace made of a freestanding slab of blackened steel rolls effortlessly into the dark wood floor.
The reconfiguration of space and use of materials complement the architecture of the building while creating a unique, comfortable home filled with character.
